Saving is not contacting: designing for intent without noise
Signals of interest carry different weight. Understanding them keeps you from chasing curiosity and helps you respond better.
Key ideas
- A like, a save and a contact request express different intentions.
- Privacy must be explicit in every gesture.
- Measure progression, not an isolated number.
Every gesture means something different
A like can express affinity. Saving usually signals that an option deserves another look. A comment adds context. A contact request is already asking for a reply.
Treating all of these actions as a lead creates noise for whoever publishes and pressure for whoever is just exploring.
Privacy is product too
Saving should be able to stay private. Publishing a list should be an explicit decision. Contacting should show exactly what data will be shared and with whom.
Measure the progression
Views help you understand reach; clicks, saves and requests show different kinds of progress. No single metric explains the quality of an opportunity.
